
“While the proposed tax on motor fuels will provide more revenue to the state, it will also inflict serious damage on the Massachusetts economy. In the first year of implementation alone, it will destroy more than 3,000 jobs and $93 million in business investment. Residents will be hit with an $843 million loss in disposable income, and the overall state economy will lose $207 million in production. As usual, the legislature seems to be taking none of this into account. As is typical, it seems to think that it can inflict a tax increase exceeding $500 million on the state and leave the economy unharmed.” David G. Tuerck in the Boston Herald.
